The Jazz Nutcracker!

Check out these awesome photos from Kevin Anderson’s The Jazz Nutcracker!

The show was a huge success this past December and Rocket For The Arts was honored to be involved! The second annual show brought audience members on a journey through Tiara’s eventful night in a land of jazz and sweets in Anderson’s reinterpretation of the classic ballet. Afterward the cast held a Tootsie Ball Tea Party, where there was celebration including dance and treats for everyone.

Kevin let us know that what he is most proud of is the sense of community between the dancers, how they grew to help each other and cheer for each other during performances, and became a tight-knit family. The joy of dance and excitement of performing really showed during the shows, and it was a great time for everyone involved!

The Jazz Nutcracker!

Rocket For The Arts is very excited about Kevin Anderson’s The Jazz Nutcracker – it is only a few weeks away! This reinterpretation of the classic E.T.A. Hoffman story follows Tiara, a young girl living in Harlem in the 1920’s. Throughout one night, Tiara and her new toy Nutcracker find themselves fighting off evil and traveling to a land of jazz and sweets.
We are so excited to see this performance come to life through Kevin’s wonderful dances and direction. You can join us on December 15th at 2pm and on December 16th at 7pm to watch the show! It will be held at Gainesville High School Auditorium and tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children.

Afterward there will be a Tootsie Ball Tea Party for the audience to join in! It is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with the cast, snap photos and enjoy some delicious treats! Admission for that is $5 for a child who brings an art supply (under 7 get in free). This event is to help support Rocket For The Arts, so we would love to see you there!

The Jazz Nutcracker!

Rocket For The Arts is very excited about the holidays this year. We are honored to help sponsor Kevin Anderson’s The Jazz Nutcracker!

Last year Kevin opened K. Arts Dance Theater as a way to bring dance into the community. He welcomed dancers of all ages and abilities and let them celebrate the joy and art of dancing and working together as a community.

The first production of The Jazz Nutcracker was also last year, and though there were challenges, the show came together wonderfully. The dedication of the company, the drive of the performers, and the help of the community led to a successful and beautiful show.

This year will only improve on last year’s stellar show. With more elaborate costumes and sets, more publicity and advertising, and more community involvement, The Jazz Nutcracker will be a treat for families to see! We at Rocket For The Arts are thrilled to be involved with the production and enjoyed helping Kevin make this show even better.

We hope you enjoy the show!

The Rocket is ready to launch!

We're so thrilled to finally unveil Rocket for the Arts! Albert Coronel, founder and creative director of neutral7, has been developing the idea of a non-profit organization benefiting the youth and the arts in our community since last year. With a little help from the interns, Alex and Becca, we are finally ready to launch this great organization.

Take a peek at our brainstorming process and how we arrived at the final name and look!
